The British by much astuteness, have rendered
within the short space of fifty years, the Indian people
so ignorant and regardless that they have lost the mental power of discerning between good and bad, of
differentiating profit and loss and of distinguishing
between honour and dishonour, further thay are content
in this degraded state of life as if no blow had been
struck at their wealth and honour.
O dear brothers! Fellow countrymen! My
heart is grieved when I see that your lives are the most degraded and deplorable in the world. Love of country
is the faith of all men. Patriotism is one and the
same as religion. It matters not to me that the Tnglish
oppress you. If I grieve, it is because you are unaware
of your destruction and dishonour, spending your lives
in this world like reptiles, without purpose or design. Do you know that the British have, without your knowledge,
suddenly deprived you of privileges and liberty and taught you lessons of slavery ? Are you aware that all the produce of your country and your money have been gradually snatched away? that you have by degrees,
arrived at such a state that you engage yourselves as
slaves to the British for five rupees per month and sell
your lives as soldiers for a monthly wage of nine rupees.
